Preventive Maintenance Tips for your Westinghouse Fridge/Freezer: Every 12 months,

  1. Westinghouse Fridge Door Seals - All rubber door seals should be given a light coat of petroleum jelly/vaseline or silicone spray to stop drying out and tearing and prevent replacement.
  2. Westinghouse Refrigerators - Freezers 12 month service - Cabinets should be pulled out, turned off and remove power plug and rear pipe work/fan/compressor etc, should be cleaned out for dust and correct air flow with brush and vacuum, to stop premature compressor failures affected by overheating. Some models will need removal of compressor compartment cover, please refer to user’s manual.
  3. Cleaning Exterior cabinet - Cleaning should only be done with a car shampoo with normal p.H or warm soap and a soft cloth and no sprays like (spray & wipe etc) as they do contain ammonia and tend to cause some rusting of the doors and cabinet when used.
  4. Protecting Cabinet paintwork - Outer cabinet and paintwork can also be polished & waxed to seal to surface yearly with car wax as the paintwork on your refrigerator is like your car paint enamel and similar treatment is needed.
  5. Cleaning Interior cabinet – Cleaning can be done with very mild detergent to remove all sticky dropped food items. Then wiped over with cleaning cloth and water.
*Please Note: Do not clean your interior by leaving the doors open for extended periods of time with the fridge or freezer “On” while you remove all the shelves and give it a thorough clean. The refrigeration unit will try to run for long periods of time to overcome the heat source of air driven into the coil. The best option if possible is be prompt or turn off the appliance altogether.

Q: How do I book a Service Call with you people to come to my house and fix my fridge?
A:
If you don’t have a model number, we will sort it out when we get there, as long as you’re fridge or freezer is a WESTINGHOUSE and you are located in the ‘Service Area’s we cover’

Q: How long do repairs take?
A: Depending on the model and the repair needed, we find most of the fridge repair work is completed in 30mins to 50mins.

Q:
Do you give seniors' discounts on fridge repairs?

A: Yes! We give senior card holders 10% discount parts & labour

Q:
Some other company’s Advertise a free service call or free quote, Why doesn’t yours?

A: Most of the time nothing is for free, “It’s free with repair”. Meaning if you were to reject their quote if too high, they will still make you pay for their call out. It’s not a free service.

Ongoing Service Problems with your Westinghouse refrigerator or freezer;
Some people are embarrassed to mention problems from other company's or service people, be honest with the service technician and inform them of previous services or of failed attempts. They will find out eventually, better you don't waste their time and your money diagnosing everything instead of getting right to the problem.

Model Numbers for Westinghouse Freezers and Fridges
Q: Why are Model numbers important?
A: As with cars from the first model to the current model is very different and a lot of the parts are not interchangeable, it’s the same with fridges so it helps to identify a particular Appliance. Also manufacturers make running changes even half way through the year on any particular model with different parts used on the same models.

Q:
Where do I find the Model Number, to order the seals on my Westinghouse Fridge?.

A: Westinghouse Refrigerators normally have a rating plate (a white & black sticker) usually in the food compartment interior left hand side or remove bottom crisper trays and look to the left. Alternatively, look inside the Freezer Door.
For example on models: BJ414CM, BJ504QMBTS, BJ505S, FJ303Q, FJ383GM, RE221M, RE351Q, RJ275M, RJ280M, RJ390M, RJ412G, RJ422G, RJ442G, RJ452S, RJ522DEFGK, RJ532ST, RP312C, RP342GM, RP423GMQ, RS651FG, RS652M, RS662T    etc
Please Note: If you can’t locate the model number we will need to measure and identify the model on site to fit the appropriate door seals.

Westinghouse Refrigerator and Freezer Repair Questions
Q: My refrigerator keeps turning off my electricity when we plug it in, what could be the fault? And is it worth fixing?
A: This is the most common fault especially with frost-free models, the biggest cause is an element designed to remove ice from the evaporator. We stock parts for all models of Kelvinator and Westinghouse; the cost of this service fortunately is not too expensive, depending on the model.
Q:
Why does my fridge leak water on the inside then run out onto the floor?

A: Modern refrigerators have an internal drain system in place that blocks and then overflows inside instead of draining out. On servicing, drain parts are cleaned, drain flushed and reassembled. Cost depending on models, varies so please call for an indicative quote.

Q:
How do I know if my fridge is running OK?

A: The best indicator is your milk; it should be good till the expiry date and ice cream in the freezer should be firm. If your milk is going off quickly and ice cream in the freezer is soft, you might have to call service. Ideal temps are between (+0.5C to +4.5C) in the food compartment and between (-15C to –21C) in the freezer compartment, if you have a reliable thermometer.

Q:
I have an old Side by Side Westinghouse Fridge with Water & Ice Maker, No water is going into the Ice maker to make cubes, can these still be fixed being 17yrs old?

A: Yes! We carry parts for the very old and the more recent models as well. We should be able to get your Icemaker working again.

Q: Does my Refrigerator ever need Regassing?
A: No! This is a major misconception. Refrigerators if they don’t leak the gas will last forever in the System. Refrigerators Only need to be regassed in the event of a leak or leaks (in Component parts or Copper/Aluminium/Bundy Tubes used to carry the Refrigerant Gas).
